House League
Last Updated on Tuesday, 26 January 2010 22:43
This program marks the beginning of the transition from introductory programes to baseball (as we see it on television). In most weeks, teams play one game and have one practice. Oakridge teams compete against teams for other organizations in the city. In recent years, leagues have also included out of town teams from Aylmer, St. Thomas, and Delaware. The season begins around Victoria Day and concludes in early to mid August.
In House League, young players are introduced to diamond sizes gradually to the point at which they are playing on major league dimension diamonds. At mosquito level-ages 10 and 11- length of bases is 60 feet and the pitcher’s rubber is 45 feet from the plate. At peewee-ages 12 and 13- length of bases is 75 feet and the pitcher’s rubber is 50 feet. At bantam –ages 14 and 15 and beyond, the players are using major league dimensions-90 feet between bases and 60 feet and six inches from the pitchers rubber to home plate. At this level they are throwing from pitchers mounds. There are other age specific rules in place to protect young arms by limiting the number of innings pitched.
House League Rookie Ball
Rookieball is an excellent way of introducing regular baseball to younger players (7-9 years of age) with little to no experience with the game. Our coaches use a pitching machine to accuratley and consistently pitch balls over the plate. Not only do our players experience successes with batting, but never have to worry about "wild" pitches.
House League Rookieball stresses fair and equal play of all players while giving positive instruction of basic baseball fundamentals. There is usually 1 practice and 1 game per week. Both boys and girls are welcome to play!
Hope to see you on the diamonds next summer!
